GenesisCare joins Peninsula Private Hospital to establish seamless service for cancer patients in South Eastern Victoria
Langwarrin, Melbourne – Cancer care provider GenesisCare has announced it has joined forces with Ramsay Health Care to open a new radiation therapy service at the Peninsula Private Hospital in Langwarrin.
GenesisCare’s personalised and evidence-based approach to radiation therapy will add to Peninsula Private Hospital’s expansive cancer therapy services to offer a seamless and convenient experience for cancer patients seeking treatment within the one local network.
The Victorian Cancer Register shows that 35,656 Victorians were diagnosed with cancer in 2022, equating to 98 every day[i]. Modelling suggests that almost half of Australians (48.3%) diagnosed with cancer would benefit from radiation therapy.[ii]
Peninsula Private Hospital CEO, Michelle Henderson said: “We’re delighted to have GenesisCare commence radiation therapy services at Peninsula Private Hospital, enhancing the cancer care journey for existing and future patients. The addition of radiation therapy services will complement our comprehensive surgical and medical oncology services, supported by a dedicated and experienced team of specialists, nurses and allied health professionals.”
Existing cancer care services at Peninsula Private Hospital include surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and allied health services. GenesisCare will also employ a cancer care nurse coordinator to provide emotional support and help patients navigate their personalised care plan.
Brendan Foley, General Manager at GenesisCare Victoria said: “GenesisCare is proud to collaborate with Ramsay Health Care on this new service to offer patients at Peninsula Private Hospital more convenient access to comprehensive cancer care on site.
“GenesisCare strives to offer rapid, patient-centred care and we’re proud to receive high patient satisfaction ratings across Victoria[iii]. Once fully established, we expect to be providing high quality radiation therapy to around 500 patients at this new service annually.”
Dr Mario Guerrieri, Radiation Oncologist at GenesisCare said: “We’re thrilled to bring together a group of local, dedicated GenesisCare doctors to this service. Their long-standing relationships and experience in radiation oncology care across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula will complement the existing cancer care services at the hospital.
“In addition to modern radiation oncology therapies, patients will also have access to a cancer care coordinator who will work collaboratively across the multi-disciplinary elements of cancer care to support a holistic cancer journey for patients at the hospital and aim to improve their treatment experience.
“We look forward to working with the healthcare professionals at Peninsula Private Hospital and adding to the impressive, existing array of cancer care services on site and within the local healthcare provider network, including Beleura Private Hospital.”
GenesisCare’s new service at Langwarrin is expected to open in the second half of this year and builds on GenesisCare’s successful arrangements with Ramsay at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital (NSW), Hollywood Private Hospital (WA), and John Flynn Private Hospital (Qld), and co-location at centres including the North Shore Health Hub (NSW).
