North Adelaide (Calvary North Adelaide Hospital)
Overview
The Adelaide Oncology and Haematology (AOAH) team located at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital offer access to medical oncology and haematology consulting services every week, Monday - Friday.
Our team is dedicated to delivering a contemporary service experience grounded in the belief that care should be focused on the individual, as well as the condition.
The AOAH team offer consulting services, with treatment (including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and haematology) delivered by the Calvary North Adelaide Hospital team.
GenesisCare and AOAH partnership
A partnership between GenesisCare and AOAH was announced at the beginning of 2022, helping to ensure South Australian cancer patients can benefit from easier access to integrated care with medical oncology, radiation therapy and surgical oncology in a coordinated patient focused care pathway.
Our treatments and services
AOAH provide Medical Oncology and Haematology consulting services. At North Adelaide we partner with Calvary North Adelaide Hospital to deliver the following.
Chemotherapy is an approach to cancer therapy which involves the administration of medicine, usually orally or by injection, which is intended to kill cancer cells or minimise their growth and spread. Chemotherapy can be used in conjunction with other cancer treatments.
Immunotherapy is a type of treatment that is intended to help your own immune system fight cancer. There are different types of immunotherapy for cancer that work in different ways.
Haematology is the medical speciality relating to conditions that affect the blood, and the organs that make the blood as well as cancers of the blood. A Haematologist will look after patients requiring specialist advice for bleeding disorders, or blood cancers, and may prescribe chemotherapy as a treatment option. The Haematologist, may also refer to other specialists participating in the multi-disciplinary team, for instance a Radiation Oncologist if radiotherapy treatment is advised.
Advancing patient outcomes in the future is just as important to us as caring for patients today. Where appropriate, patients may be able to access the GenesisCare global network of clinical trials.
For further information on clinical trial participation, please speak with your treating doctor.
