Medical oncologist
A doctor who has had special training in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. They are the main healthcare professional looking after someone who has cancer and may coordinate treatment with other specialists.1
Radiation oncologist
A doctor who has been specially trained to use radiation to treat cancer.2
Geriatrician
A doctor who has completed at least three additional years of training in caring for people over the age of 65 years.3
Nuclear medicine physician
Doctors who are trained in using very small amounts of radioactive materials to take images of the body in order to diagnose and treat disease.4
Haematologist
A doctor with specialist training in diagnosing and treating disorders related to the blood.5
Endocrinologist
Doctors with specialised training in diagnosing and treating conditions related to hormones and the parts of the body that make them.6 |
Geneticist
A doctor with additional training in the study of genes and inheritance and how that may relate to cancer. They can help counsel individuals and families on the risk of developing different types of cancer.7 |
Radiation therapy
Radiation therapy may be offered in the early stages of cancer treatment, or after it has started to spread. There are different radiation therapy techniques which may be suitable for different cancer types at different stages.8
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is an approach to cancer therapy which involves the administration of medicine, usually orally or by injection, which is intended to kill cancer cells or minimise their growth and spread. Chemotherapy can be used in conjunction with other cancer treatments.9
Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy is a type of treatment that is intended to help your own immune system fight cancer. There are different types of immunotherapy for cancer that work in different ways.10
Theranostics
Theranostics is an approach to cancer therapy which combines diagnostics and treatment techniques to detect and treat some cancer types.11,12
Haematology
Treatment for blood cancers varies depending on the type, stage and spread. Haematology treatments may include various types of therapy (listed above) as well as stem cell or bone marrow transplantation.13

Our vision is to help provide integrated cancer services to enhance our care and to support bringing further facilities to rural and remote locations, helping reduce the need for patients to travel to metropolitan areas for care.
