Kyle Woods – Principal Radiographer
GenesisCare are experts in cancer care and pushing the boundaries of cutting-edge radiotherapy, so it’s a great place to expand your clinical skillset, confidence, and scope of practice. My managers at GenesisCare have been exceptional role models and advocates, who’ve encouraged my professional and personal growth right from when I started as a Senior Therapy Radiographer in 2018, to my role now as Principal Radiographer.
My career at GenesisCare began in Cambridge when the centre was just being built. I loved the idea of being part of a forward-thinking team, building a dynamic radiotherapy service and safely implementing cutting-edge technology and techniques, while seeing my patients through their entire radiotherapy pathway.
I have a fond memory of our first patient at GenesisCare in Cambridge. Throughout his treatment our small team saw him daily, sharing the highs and lows of treatment. He felt comfortable sharing his life, career, and interests with us. As he completed his treatment, we extended an invitation for him to join our first patient focus group, and he was a special guest during our official centre opening. This is just one story out of countless incredible experiences I have had over the years at GenesisCare. We pride ourselves on building genuine connections with our patients and prioritising them as individuals, taking the time to understand their needs.
Advancing my radiographer career
Through my career I have been encouraged to progress to leadership roles, firstly as Lead Radiographer in 2020 at GenesisCare in Cambridge, followed by Principal Radiographer in 2021, which involves overseeing our stereotactic radiotherapy service. I’m now part of a multidisciplinary team which delivers high quality, cutting edge stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), including the introduction of prostate SABR to all 14 of our centres

GenesisCare have invested in my professional development, which allowed me to attend and present at multiple conferences where I’ve been encouraged to educate other medical professionals about the work we do to improve outcomes for patients with cancer. I’ve also been able to build relationships with vendors and partners, including contributing to developing and championing surface guided radiotherapy (SGRT) systems alongside VisionRT.
Our team prioritises Continuous Professional Development (CPD) through Master’s Modules, courses, conferences, or internal CPD sessions facilitated by our own team for knowledge sharing. Being able to focus on my CPD and help facilitate, so others benefit, is something I find incredibly fulfilling.
Life as a Principal Radiographer
In my current role, I co-ordinate the SABR patient pathway from referral to treatment, as well as supporting the implementation of new SABR and SRS techniques and training teams across GenesisCare to grow their skills. I also have the privilege of working alongside our Clinical Reference Groups and help translate their clinical strategies into reality, to provide even more patients with access to our world-class SABR and SRS services.
Why choose a radiographer career at GenesisCare?
