Dr Thomas Strawson-Smith has been a Consultant in Clinical Oncology at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust since his appointment in May 2020.
He attained his MRCP in 2013 and then completed specialist training in Clinical Oncology in North London working at UCLH, the Royal Free NHS Trust and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.
He was awarded a master's degree with distinction in oncology at the Institute of Cancer Research for work evaluating the role of stereotactic radiotherapy for oligometastatic disease. He also spent a year as a Senior Research Fellow at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre working on a variety of studies exploring utility of circulating tumour cells (CTCs) as a biomarker and the use of stereotactic radiotherapy in oligometastatic and locally recurrent colorectal cancer.
He has specialist interest in systemic therapy for breast and colorectal cancer including the use of immunotherapy and newer targeted treatments. He delivers radiotherapy treatment for breast and lower GI cancers and has been involved in the integration of Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) to allow tattooless breast radiotherapy and offers stereotactic radiotherapy for oligometastatic and locally recurrent disease.
He has published in international peer reviewed journals and presented at both national and international conferences and continues to be actively involved in research as the cancer research network (CRN) West of England sub speciality lead for colorectal cancer and is principal investigator for ongoing studies at the Bristol Cancer Institute.
